Kutno terminal: Upgrade, expansion, modernization

Today, PCC’s Kutno terminal counts among Poland’s most advanced combined transport hubs. It facilitates the fast and efficient turn-around of cargos both along east-west routes between Western and Eastern Europe, and also along the north-south axis from the Baltic ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia to the Adriatic ports of Koper and Trieste. The annual handling capacity was significantly expanded in 2015 – by 150% – to 250,000 TEU (20-foot ISO standard containers). PCC Intermodal S.A. commissioned the terminal in 2011 as the first advanced logistics and handling center in central Poland. It was the first investment project of PCC Intermodal S.A. of this magnitude.

Project status

The terminal was put into operation in September 2011. The completion of all expansion stages was finished in July 2015. Construction of the terminal in Kutno began in spring 2010. The implementation of the investment project was divided into four expansion stages, the first of which was completed with the official inauguration of the terminal on September 30, 2011. From the first day of operation, three lifting devices (reach stackers) with a lifting capacity of 45 tons each were used. The annual handling capacity was 100,000 TEU. In 2015, the fourth expansion stage was completed: In June, PCC Intermodal S.A. successfully concluded the expansion and optimization of the terminal with the installation of two gantry cranes. The annual handling capacity of the terminal was more than doubled to 250,000 TEU. The new gantry cranes ensure swift processing with a speed of 160 meters per minute, a span of 40 meters, and a maximum lifting capacity of 41 tons. Additionally, six reach stackers are in use, which can load and unload container trains on the four 700-meter-long block train tracks.
